LNIN Number Updates Subject to Fees Starting June 1, 2025

As announced by the Luxembourg Business Register (LBR) in September 2024, all individuals registered with the Luxembourg Trade and Companies Register (RCS)—including directors, shareholders, managers, authorized representatives, and auditors—must provide their Luxembourg National Identification Number (LNIN) to the RCS. This number corresponds to the social security number assigned to any natural person registered with a Luxembourg public administration. Such LNIN can also be obtained by filing a specific request which shall be supported by documents such as a copy of the ID/passport and proof of residence.

On March 3, 2025, the LBR confirmed that updating the LNIN for individuals already registered with the RCS, which had been free of charge since the initial announcement, will incur a fee starting June 1, 2025.

Additionally, the LBR has set an official deadline for compliance. Effective October 1, 2025, failure to update an individual’s LNIN with the RCS will result in the suspension of filing procedures, including the submission of annual accounts and changes to registered addresses, until compliance is ensured.

To avoid disruptions, companies should update their records before September 30, 2025—but the sooner, the better—to prevent delays in future filings.
